What is a Proud Space?
Proud Stoke Spaces is a network of local businesses, venues, and organisations that have committed to being visibly safe for LGBTQ+ people. It is more than just a sticker in a window—it is a promise of safety.
🛡️ The Visible Symbol
Members display the “Proud Stoke Space” sticker. This acts as a beacon, telling customers and staff immediately that this is a safe environment free from judgement.
🎓 The Knowledge
Once an organisation pledges, it receives immediate access to free ‘Proud Stoke Spaces’ LGBTQ+ inclusion training. The programme can be used by any number of staff members within the organisation.
📍 The Directory
Every accredited venue is added to our “Safe Map,” allowing LGBTQ+ residents and visitors to plan their days and nights out with confidence.
Why is this needed?
Safety is not a guarantee for everyone. Hate crimes against transgender people in Staffordshire rose by 35.7% last year. Because of fear, many people avoid simple things like grabbing a coffee or going to the gym. A Proud Space changes that narrative.
