Social Group Volunteer
Help create a safe and welcoming space for others
Do you enjoy connecting with people and helping others feel supported?
We’re looking for compassionate and reliable volunteers to help support our LGBTQ+ community groups across Staffordshire.
As a Support Group Volunteer, you’ll help create a welcoming environment where people can connect, build friendships and access support. Whether it’s helping set up the room, welcoming attendees or supporting group discussions, you’ll play an important role in helping people feel included and valued.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference while gaining valuable experience in community support and group facilitation.
How you’ll help
You might:
• Help prepare the room before sessions
• Welcome attendees and help people feel comfortable
• Support conversations and group activities
• Encourage members to connect and build friendships
• Assist with simple activities and discussions
• Support attendees who may be feeling anxious or isolated
• Follow Project93 safeguarding procedures when required
• Help ensure the space is left tidy after each session
No two sessions are exactly the same, and you’ll always have support from the Project93 team.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for people who are:
• Friendly, approachable and compassionate
• Good listeners
• Reliable and committed
• Comfortable working with diverse communities
• Passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ people
Knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues is helpful, but you don’t need previous volunteering experience. Full training and support will be provided.
A DBS check will be required, which Project93 will arrange and fund.

Most importantly, you’ll help create a safe space where people can feel accepted, supported and connected.
Time commitment
Approximately 2 hours per week, including preparation and group sessions.
Groups currently run in Hanley, with plans to develop additional groups in Stafford, Tamworth, Lichfield and Burton-upon-Trent.
Sessions may take place during the day, in the evening or at weekends depending on volunteer and venue availability.
